Answer:

  • Colonization affected people’s freedom and nationalist sentiments during freedom struggle against imperial domination.

  • Oppression and exploitation was come as common bond for all people from different walks of life which led the ideas of nationalist and which resulted anti-colonial movements.

  • Anti-colonial movement gave a strong subject to the people for unity.

(B) How the First World War helped in the growth of the National Movement in India.

Answer:

  • The First World War resulted many economic problems for the people in India because to finance the defence expenditure British government had imposed high custom duties and taxes on Indians.

  • In addition, Indians are forced to join the British army also alienated the people from the colonial rulers.

  • During 1918-19 and 1920-21, crops failed in many parts of India which led to the food shortages.

  • The nationalist leaders had taken advantage of this situation to encourage the people against the colonial rulers.

  • So, in this way the First World War helped in the growth of the National Movement in India.
