NCERT Class 7 Solutions: Integers (Chapter 1) Exercise 1.1 – Part 4

Q-10 A water tank has steps inside it. A monkey is sitting on the topmost step (i.e., the first step). The water level is at the ninth step:

  1. He jumps 3 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up. In how many jumps will he reach the water level?

  2. After drinking water, he wants to go back. For this, he jumps 4 steps up and Then jumps back 2 steps down in every move in how many jumps will he reach back the top step?

  3. If the number of steps moved down is represented by negative integers and the number of steps move up by positive integers, represent his moves in part (i) and (ii) by completing the following:

  1. 3+2..........=8

  2. (b)42+........=8

In (a) the sum (-8) represent going down by eight steps so, what will the Sum 8 in (b) represents?

Given the Monkey jump step in water tank and a water tank has steps inside it. A monkey is sitting on the topmost step (i.e., the first step). The water level is at the ninth step

Given the Monkey Jump Step in Water Tank

Given the Monkey jump step in water tank and a water tank has steps inside it. A monkey is sitting on the topmost step (i.e., the first step). The water level is at the ninth step

Solutions:

  1. He jumps 3 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up. Following number ray shows the jumps of monkey:

    Jumps of monkey:

    Given the monkey jumps 3 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up find the number ray shows the jumps of monkey

    Given the Monkey Jumps 3 Steps Down and Then Jumps Back 2 Steps Up

    Given the monkey jumps 3 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up find the number ray shows the jumps of monkey

    Firstjump=1+3=4steps

    Secondjump=42=2steps

    Thirdjump=2+3=5steps

    Fourthjump=52=3steps

    Fifthjump=3+3=6steps

    Sixthjump=62=4steps

    Seventhjump=4+3=7steps

    Eighthjump=72=5steps

    Ninthjump=5+3=8steps

    Tenthjump=82=6steps

    Eleventhjump=6+3=9steps

    He will reach ninth steps in 11 jumps

  2. He jumps four steps and then jumps down 2 steps. Following number ray shows the jumps of monkey:

    Given the monkey jumps 4 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up find the number ray shows the jumps of monkey

    Given the Monkey Jumps 4 Steps Down and Then Jumps Back 2 Steps Up

    Given the monkey jumps 4 steps down and then jumps back 2 steps up find the number ray shows the jumps of monkey

    FirstJump=94=5

    SecondJump=5+2=7

    ThirdJump=74=3

    FourthJump=3+2=5

    FifthJump=54=1

    Thus monkey reach back on the first step in 5 jumps.

  3. This is a possible solution

    (a)3+2..........=8

    3+23+23+23+23+23+23+23+2=8

    (b)42+........=8

    42+42+42+42=8

    Thus, sum 8 in (b) represents going up by eight steps.
