Q-2 Give the geometric representation of 2x+9=0 as and equation,

  1. in one variable

  2. in two variables.

Solution:

  • Equation of 2x+9=0 in one variable

2x+9=02x=9x=92

The representation of 2x+9 on the number line is as show below:

Give geometric representation of given equation for one variable

  • In two variable 2x+9=0 can be written as 2x+0y+9=0

It is a linear equation in two variable x and y . It is best to represent this line on a plane- the coordinate plane. Note that all the values of y are permissible because 0y is always 0 . However, x must satisfy the relation 2x+9=02x=9x=92 . That is, y- coordinates of the points on this line don’t matter as long as their x-coordinate 92 . Understood this way, it is a line parallel to y axis passing through x = 92

  • Two possible points on this line can be x=92,y=0;x=92,y=2

  • So plotting point (92,0),(92,2) and joining them we get the graph AB as a line papallel to yaxis at a distance of 92 on the left yaxis .
