People as Resources

Gender Parity – Key

  • Division of Labour – Men (fields) & Women (domestic)
  • Women – Meager education, low skill formation, low wages, absence of maternity leave, childcare & social security systems for unorganized sector

Now when we talk about human resources it՚s very important that there should be a kind of gender parity that should exist because unless and until both the gender are at par, development of the society cannot work. Since traditional times, it՚s kind of a customary system that has been going on through generation which says man goes to field and women works for domestic purpose, so it is kind of division of labor that started with as a society. It started to develop, usually female member of the society get kind of less education, less income, low wages and there is absence of social security system, child care and maternity leave under the unorganized sector and all these form a basic reason why there has been growing gender disparity that exists.

Chart for Literacy Rate in India

Now we will first talk about important parameters and quality of population that is the education. As we see from 1951 to 2011, we have seen significant rise from less than 30 % to more than 80 % in the literacy itself. That means more and more people are now aware, more and more people can write and read their name, so as a result this would definitely increase the national income, the productivity of the nation, the cultural richness and it would give a kind of more efficient governance because the people who are going to vote are much more literate, much more aware about their right and duties. Education not only acts as a medium or a flow of information but also acts as a catalyst.

Now what is catalyst? In Science, we understand catalyst as a substance that speeds up the process of reaction that means education here is trying to speed up the quality of services, the quality of resources that we can provide and so once a person is educated, he or she can bring in more changes, more revolution and more inputs in to the system.

Again there has been a growing focus on vocation education for those who are trying to drop college education. Kind of vocational education that is being developed now. Some of the recent issues or contemporary issues under education is Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao that is kind of girl child education system; from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan that talked about elementary education compulsory, we have moved on to Uchatar Shiksha Abhiyan which talks about quality higher education in the colleges and universities; there has been Mid Day Meals program initiated to bring in more people to school to get them educated.

There has been a shift in the trend since we have achieved a significant Jump into the literacy. We are now focusing more on to higher education and standardized education. Higher education and standardized education has become a common focus now. Now this is standardization of education and talks about creating common entrance examination, common syllabus, common textbooks, for across all broads and across all regions of the nation. Then there has been again a recent emphasis on the three language formula.

So all of this are important concepts that you can incorporate under the quality of a population that՚s education.
