1. This is our beautiful country India –the seventh largest country in the world with a length of 3200 km north to south and 2900 km east to west.

3. The great Mountain range, Himalayas – ‘the abode of snow’ is located on the northern part of India extending towards east. The highest mountain peak –Mt Everest is located here.

4. The fertile land of Northern Indian plains lie to the south of the Himalayas which is drained by the mighty rivers- Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra. This area is thickly populated.

5. Dry, hot and sandy stretch of land – The Great Indian Desert lies in the Western part of India.

6. The region triangular in shape is the peninsular plateau region. Deccan plateau, Malwa plateau and Chotanagpur plateau are three plateaus located in this region. Chotanagpur plateau is rich in mineral resources.

7. The island groups - the Lakshadweep Islands lie in the Arabian Sea and the Andaman and the Nicobar Islands lie in the Bay of Bengal.

8. Our country is divided into 29 states and seven Union Territories.

9. Telengana is the new state created recently.

10. Delhi is the capital city of our country.
