Section 30B. 2 Summary of – ‘Writing an Effective Resume’

  • While making a resume keep in mind what kind of job you are applying for.
  • And include all information about you and your background would be most important to an employer.
  • Then include all details which can effective.
  • A number of different formats can be used.
  • Make resume attractive, well-organised, easy to read and free of errors.
  • A common format of resume includes:
    • Heading
    • Personal details
    • Employment objective
    • Education
    • Employment experience
    • References

Heading

  • Heading includes candidates name, address, telephone number and e-mail ID.
  • These are usually cantered on the page.
  • Use formatting conventions like underlining, bold, different font size and spacing to make it appear like a heading.
  • Avoid including date or keeping changing it.

Personal Details

  • Personal information includes details of age, sex, marital status, race and religion.
  • Sometimes candidates choose not to provide all of these because they may have a negative impact on the employer.
  • It՚s only up to the candidate that what information they wants which would honestly and effectively represent them.

Employment Objective

  • Candidate must have to state immediate employment objective and the direction in which they hope their career will grow up.
  • For example: “A position that allows me to use my Computer Sciences training to solve engineering problems” .
  • This will help the employer to identify objective of candidate clearly.

Education

  • Sequence of education or experience is depends on which will make strong impact.
  • If education and professional training is strong, list education first.
  • Or have one or more years of job experience, list experience first.
  • But list them from the most recent down sequence.
  • While including education information also mention grades and Intuition from which a particular degree is pursued.
  • If candidate have achieved something in extra study activity such as spots or game mention it.
  • But, if they have more things to list then add other title named SPECIAL SKILLS AND ACTIVITIES.

  • Highlights the skills got from work experience, and list them according to functions performed.

  • “Covering letter” is a letter of application which is a written document submitted with the CV as a cover page.
